A small taste of M's talent

The girls had early release from school today, and Sam has had the week off, so as part of our psuedo-"staycation," we went to lunch at a local diner. As soon as we sit down, while I'm trying to strap M into the high chair, he grabs the utensil roll and smoothly dumps the utensils out of the napkin and onto the floor. While I am bending down to pick them up, he reaches over, snatches my full water glass by the lip and pulls it immediately to his mouth. Does this sound a bit like misdirection to anyone else? This kid is good.

Oh, those funny things

Why is it that my girls will stand around inside the house with their backpacks on for 20 minutes before the bus comes, but as soon as they get outside to wait for the final few minutes--plop! off they go?? I do not understand this. Is it some odd game of chicken? Also, why do they scream bloody murder ("THE BUS IS COMING, MOM! WE'RE GOING TO MISS THE BUS!!!") if I don't have them perfectly ready within five minutes of the bus arrival, but if they have to wait for more than two minutes outside, they will think of something random they want to take to school and come running back in? How do they suddenly forget that they could miss their bus? Makes me wonder. (And chuckle.)

A few tidbits

Okay, so I don't have any pictures to accompany this post (sorry, Gramma) but I thought I'd offer a little bit of news so that I'm better caught up. Ooooookaaaaay. So, the girls are loving school, which is wonderful. The first day was a bit rough, for T prior to school, and for B after school, but all in all a success.

T was soooooo nervous the first day. Wowza. I just kept telling her, "It's totally normal to be nervous. I always was, every single year." When she got home she told me, "I was so nervous at first, but by the time I got on the bus, I wasn't anymore, and once I got in class, I was thinking, 'what was I so worried about?'" :D Good girl. That made me very proud. She definitely got over her jitters a lot faster than I ever did. She is NUTS about her teacher (a woman who, in my opinion, exemplifies what a teacher should be), which puts my mind SO at ease, and makes me excited for a very successful year ahead for T. If T feels loved and safe in a classroom, she blooms. So, I'm a very grateful mama to this dedicated educator.

B....lol. She got home looking like she'd been plowed over by wild horses. She stood in the hallway, her head against the wall, red in the face (the bus was very warm, apparently) and said, "Mom, I don't think I'd better go to school tomorrow." Poor baby. Totally worn out. She refused to even tell me about her day at first claiming she "didn't remember" what they had done. Thankfully once she got snack inside her she was willing to spill. :) She's having a lot of fun, too.

M and I have been adjusting just fine. He's the "karma child" I get for being the terror to my mother I was. He's busy, busy, busy and into everything ALL THE TIME. More so than either of my girls. By like, A LOT. He's adorable and delightful and fun and I'm totally in love with him. He does, however, keep me on my toes constantly. :)

The farm. Well, we got a lot accomplished this year. Well, let's just say my hubby did. :) Goat sales went well, we got a greenhouse erected and it did AMAZINGLY. (I really do need to post pix. We have HUGE tomato and melon plants in there. It's crazy.) Our beehives are flourishing. All of our hogs have so far survived, and we believe both the sows are pregnant--yay! Our fowl are in abundance and doing their jobs...so, we really can't complain. There's soooooo much to get done before winter, but fingers crossed we will slowly but surely cross off the list.

I recently got placed as second counselor over the Beehives at church. For my friends of other faiths than LDS, that means I am the youth leader over the girls ages 12-14 in our church. I teach a weekly lesson on Sundays, and help plan and execute an activity (spiritual, education, recreational) every Wednesday. We have a wonderful group of girls. I'm very excited, but very nervous. This is new for me. I've never been in the Young Women's organization before. Each girl is, of course, so different with unique needs, as well as talents, and it's such a key age....let's just say I'm a bit overwhelmed. Grateful. Humbled. But skeeeeered. This is where the faith comes in. :)

Sooooo now you are brought a bit more up to date. I'm sorry that I haven't been better....but I console myself saying it's more important to DO my job than to RECORD it, right? ;) It's how I don't feel so guilty. Love to all of you!

Ooohhh, Back to School, Back to School.....

Wow, is it that time again?? I'm not sure what was up with the girls this year...normally they loooove to pose for pictures, but this year they weren't so into it. I did get a few cute ones, though. (I adore how T accessorizes. She definitely didn't get that from me, but it's so darn cute. Love it.) The girls are really excited to be heading back to school. B met her kindergarten teacher last week and is really excited about all-day school. T's "crush" is in her 4th grade class, so she's nervous about that (heehee), but otherwise excited as well. It's gonna be a little weird, just me and the little guy all day, but I'm so glad they are both eager to get back to learnin'! :)

Mr. M, teething and with a cold, was not as excited about the day, as you can see. Poor baby. :(

Been a while....

I can't believe it has been so long since I have blogged. Well...I can...but I still feel a little badly about it. I have a lot of catching up to do. Maybe I'll get around to it. Maybe I won't. We'll see. But I wanted to stop by today and spruce up the look for summer, say hello, and remind myself that I have a blog. :)
